Founder Celebrates 80th Birthday

Hazell Bros Group has celebrated the 80th birthday of its founder, Donald Hazell, MBE.
In 1944, Donald Hazell bought his first truck aged 16. In 1945 he and brother Rowley formed Hazell Bros. The business has grown to be one of Tasmania's great success stories.
"It gives me great pleasure to see the growth of Hazell Bros and to see all our staff working together - because without our staff, there is no Hazell Bros," Mr Hazell said.
Donald's extensive community contribution includes nearly two decades on the Kingborough Council (six of which he served as Mayor), providing support for the Lady Nelson sail training ship, providing employment for many people throughout Tasmania, and aiming to build strong communities.
Premier Paul Lennon attended the celebrations, acknowledging Mr Hazell's contribution to Tasmanian business and community, and thanking him for the fierce pride he has shown in developing Tasmania.
Mr Lennon said the business empire Mr Hazell and his brother Rowley had started from scratch was a great example of Tasmanian innovation and determination.
"Donald truly deserves recognition for the great effort he has put into not only growing his own family business but also into benefiting his local community," the Premier said.
"He has been an inspiration for many people and it should come as no surprise that he is still going strong as a Councilor for Kingborough at the age of 80.
Hazell Bros Group managing director Geoffrey Hazell, one of Donald Hazell's four sons, said his father was more than a successful businessman.
"Dad has achieved many things in business, but it is his passion to help the community which has driven his business endeavours.
"Hazell Bros is a Tasmanian business, a Tasmanian family business and what is established and continues to grow I put down to the vision and determination of my father.
"For Dad and for us, it's all about the people we work with and the people we work for - without our people, there is no Hazell Bros."
