Hazell Bros Wins Aquatic Centre Works
28/8/2007
The Launceston City Council last night voted for the construction of the new aquatic centre to proceed, and Hazell Bros has been advised that we are the preferred tenderer for this work.
The approximate value of the project is 22m. As part of the tender process, Hazell Bros was required to explore a number of significant cost savings through specification changes and the use of alternate materials.
The tender was submitted by Bells Constructions, which is part of the Hazell Bros Group. The tender was approved, with the construction of the outdoor pools and waterslide being contingent upon Council receiving or allocating a further $2 million in funding.
Hazell Bros Managing Director Geoffrey Hazell today said "Bells has experience in building major aquatic centres in Tasmania, having built the one in Hobart. We look forward to working closely with Council representatives to deliver a modern facility for the greater Launceston community.
"The project is expected to take 16 months to complete and we envisage works commencing within the next four weeks," he said.
Launceston City Council General Manager Frank Dixon said today, "I am thrilled the decision has been made to award the tender to Bells. Their credentials are very impressive and I am certain they will deliver a state-of-the-art aquatic centre to the region".
"We are now looking forward to the construction of this essential facility that will cater to people of all ages, physical abilities and conditions. It is long overdue. I am particularly looking forward to seeing large numbers of our residents experiencing all-year-round fun and fitness" Mr Dixon said.
