The Tasmanian Sports Awards held last night recognised elite athletes who have reached great heights in their sporting careers.  Ricky Ponting took out the 2007 Athlete of the Year Award, which was presented by Hazell Bros Managing Director, Geoffrey Hazell. 

More than 500 people attended the Awards ceremony at Wrest Point, to celebrate the achievements of Tasmanian sportspeople. Winners were:

• Tasmanian Athlete of the Year - Ricky Ponting
• TIS Male Athlete of the Year - Dominic Monypenny
• TIS Female Athlete of the Year - Donna MacFarlane
• TIS Junior Athlete of the Year - Wes Sulzberger
• Coach of the Year - Tim Coyle
• Minister's Award for Excellence - King Island Imperial
• Merit Award - Trudy Pearce
• Contribution to Sport - Ken Read, Don Smith
