Works start at Launceston Aquatic Centre
4/10/2007
Hazell Bros Group today started demolition work in preparation for the new Regional Aquatic Centre in Launceston.
Hazell Bros Group Managing Director Geoffrey Hazell said the demolition process on the old Windmill Hill site should take around three weeks.
"Hazell Bros Group is extremely pleased to be involved with the construction of the new Regional Aquatic Centre in Launceston, an iconic project for Northern Tasmania," Mr Hazell said.
"This pool has obvious and important history for all of Tasmania. In Launceston, people learnt to swim here and came with their families through summer, while people from around the State competed here in swimming carnivals, for school or State championships.
"The demolition will involve the old concrete pools, with the special task of retaining the historic entranceway to the Windmill Hill site."
Mr Hazell said that after demolition work was complete and the building approvals process was finalised, construction on the new Regional Aquatic Centre would start.
"That work should take around 18 months and everyone at Hazell Bros is committed to delivering a state of the art Aquatic Centre for Launceston and Greater Launceston.
